Same But Not….
Hello there July! With the summer break fast approaching and having just dropped my outdoor availability over on my social media accounts I thought this was as good a time as any to address the elephant in the room. Why shoot so late? This is why. This session had a whole heap of curses leading up to it, none of it anyones fault just life and the usual weather forecast. Firstly, there was a time pressure to get this session done, Brett is ‘jetting’ off on a deployment imminently, secondly the weather lately has been unpredictable to say the least hasn’t it. Not really sowing the seeds in your minds of gorgeous summer family shoots has it? Thirdly, i’m suddenly carless, this is quite an inconvenience when you need to drive to work… fear nog I have the best Uber driver out there AKA my dad.
So with this in mind we set our date, like all sessions we confirm and fix the time on the morning of your session from the estimated sunset hour to fit in with what the actual weather is forecast to do on that day. Yesterday arrived and the forecast was reviewed, overcast all day and evening. Great, with a one year old this is perfect; no over heating and we can work to your Childs schedule. So we brought Henry’s session forward from 8PM to 4:30PM. Lunchtime hits and the Skys blue but the weather forecast promised cloudy from 4PM so we decided to proceed. Boy was it not cloudy….. It was CLOUDLESS!
We waited for whispers of thin clouds to pass the sun but really we all knew it was in vain. Here’s why, high contrast, neon greens, blown highlights and dappled light…. take a look these I promise you these are the best we could get in the slithers of shade we could find and moments of relief from the sun. We were distracted by all the cloud watching meaning there was no time for fun and games to coax out the genuine love and connection you all have. Then add in the need for a one year old to perform on demand for a few split seconds at a time meant it was going to become a stressful experience and soon.
I’ll agree with you, these are still gorgeous albeit a very different style of work to what I usually produce for you and we could have persevered with the session but tea time was approaching and toddler + hunger definitely does not equal a happy baby so thankfully these awesome, chilled and relaxed pair took the decision to go have a quick date and a dirty burger over in town then reconvene in a few hours as the light the weather gods were giving us was a gift not to be rejected! So 2 hours later, same photographer, equipment, editing eye, family, outfits and location but with a lovely soft light and satisfied bellies we picked up where we left off and boy did it not disappoint us. Normal service was resumed and Henry was a little superstar who trooped on through till the end don’t you think?
