5 Most Commonly Asked Questions…Newborn Edition.

I love Instagram, I have connected with so many photographers over the past couple of years and i’m always happy to answer your questions on how I do things so here are the top 5 questions frequently asked by you guys….

  1. WHAT LIGHTING DO YOU USE? I’m incredibly fortunate to have a studio which boast some beautiful clean sunshine so for me to pop a studio light in there is shameful! I am 100% natural light. My studio is on a first floor with nothing blocking the light source like buildings or trees so its really constant apart from the odd cloud that passes by. \

  2. BEAN BAG / TABLE? I’m completely behind the times and like to work as simple as possible when i’m posing therefore I just use a standard beanbag, medium firmness.

  3. BEANS / BOWL? Again simplicity is the key for me keeping it old school I guess you’d call it and I just use one set of magic beans from Gabriella’s store The Original Photoblocks. In fairness I could probably do with another set as i’m constantly looking for ‘my beans’.

  4. WHAT FRAME DO YOU USE? I’m actually frameless. when I need the blanket extended I simply ask a parent to help me during the shot to extend. The reason for this is the freedom it brings me whilst transitioning between poses. i’m not worried about the location of the light source whilst easing baby from one pose to another as when i’m ready to get the shot, I just have to spin the bag round to the light. Again natural light is so helpful here as you simply adjust the bag to fine tune to the correct lighting angle and the shadows over the face really help you refine it to perfection,

  5. WHAT IS YOUR FLOORING? Well again, i’m a fan of real things over artificial so my floor is real. They are scaffolding boards sanded back then on the dark side I have rubbed a stain wax over them with a clear varnish to give them a soft feeling and protect them from any accidents. The light side is simply painted in a standard white paint randomly sanded back and again a clear wax varnish is rubbed over them for protection and safety.
